In 1913 -  Mr. Alfred Joyce Kilmer  ( born in 1886, New Jersey, United States of America);

wrote a poem, which was published in a book of collected verse in 1914.

The late Joyce Kilmer (as he was publically known ) died in France in 1918, in one of the last battles of World War 1.


In 1922, composer & musician Mr. Oscar Rasbach, set the poem to music and a number of musicians have played this composition, over the years since;

the likes of Jazz musician & composer - the late Duke Ellington.
